The situation
As world leaders gathered in Carbis Bay for the G7 summit, Devon and Cornwall Police were tasked with ensuring security was maintained to a high level. A critical component of their security strategy was conducting RFPS surveys to monitor the radio environment in real time, ensuring that all communications were secure and any threats could be identified. To achieve this, they required an innovative solution that could provide precise and reliable data on cellular activity in the area.
The process
Forensic Analytics supplied Devon and Cornwall Police with their solution to provide accurate, real-time scanning of the radio environment. Its compact, robust design and capability to survey multiple cellular and Wi-Fi networks made it the ideal tool for the summit.
Lima Cell Monitor's ability to quickly configure its 12 modems and complete scans of all mobile networks in just 90 seconds ensured officers could make quick and accurate decisions when needed. The police used it to survey four key locations through drive and walking surveys, with Lima Cell Monitor tagging each measurement with precise GPS data for mapping. This allowed the force to gather a comprehensive overview of the radio environment in a short amount of time and ensure the security of the event.
The result
Thanks to Lima Cell Monitor’s capabilities, Devon and Cornwall Police were able to efficiently ensure the safety of G7 summit, using real-time data to monitor and control the radio environment.
"We surveyed four separate locations and their perimeters at the G7 summit and Lima’s ability to take measurements once per second per modem represents a great increase in the data we are now able to gather. The scan feature is so useful because this gives an overview of the state of the radio environment and allows us to determine which cells are on air so we can now decide which cells to lock to, if need be."
